The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.
The Unit Secretary functions as an active part of the treatment team, providing administrative services to the unit. The Unit Secretary works directly under the direction of the Nurse Manager and must work closely with Doctors, Nurses, Court Clerks, vendors, and others in the organization to prepare Legal Documents, order, receive, and distribute supplies and forms, answer telephones, take messages, file chart documents, host visitors, and under supervision to take off Doctor’s Orders.
Education: High School Degree or equivalent; Certified Nursing Assistant preferred. Medical Assistant Certificate or Unit Clerk Certificate required.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in a psychiatric care facility with knowledge of techniques and with understanding of mental illness. Prefer at least one year of experience in care of psychiatric patients. Ability to order supplies, equipment, forms, and have the ability to inventory and distribute materials is preferred. Additionally, knowledgeable of Legal Documents relating to Psychiatric Commitments, Hearings. Type of forms/documents include but are not limited to: Reise Hearings, 5150, 5250, and 5270 (Legal Holds), Purchase Order documents.
Licensure: Valid driver’s license preferred
Additional Requirements: Successful completion of hospital’s designated behavioral and physical management training program including de-escalation and appropriate use of seclusion and restraint required prior to assisting in the procedures. Must have demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and initiative. Completes all other tasks as may be requested.
