The Test Systems Engineering (TSE) team is responsible for identifying, designing, and building test solutions to accelerate product development and solidify product understanding by leveraging Tesla’s technology to create efficient and flexible design solutions.
A Mechanical Design Engineer on TSE will implement engineered test solutions that integrate with systems from both sides Tesla’s product arsenal (Energy & Automotive). Designs will require qualities of electro-mechanical design, design for manufacturability/assembly, reliability, and functionality. System level understanding is paramount in succeeding in this position.
System level design in both 3D space and schematic structure
Component level design of a wide variety of parts inside automotive and energy test systems
Project manage to deliver systems on tight and high pressure deadlines
Mechanical analysis (dynamic, structural, thermal, fluid)
Specifying proper equipment/instruments for efficient use in systems
System/component validation and troubleshooting
Documentation of an entire project (component drawings, assembly MIs, analysis, etc.)
Task tracking and collaboration in Jira/Confluence
Collaboration with other engineers and technicians to develop excellent testing solutions
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience,
Experience in rotating machinery design, EV powertrain design, or other applicable mechanical engineering field
3+ years showing technical aptitude for developing a system from concept to delivery (large electro-mechanical, rotating, and/or test systems preferred)
Proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D drafting
Basic understanding and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Experience with Jira and Confluence
Exceptional hands-on capability, familiar with assembly methods and best practices
Understanding of manufacturing methods: Machine from billet, cut and weld, sheet metal forming, 3D printing, etc.
Experience with rotating systems, including rotor dynamics, bearings, seals, and lubrication
Basic understanding of high voltage and electrical principles
