The Substrate Intelligence Horizontal Sciences group is leading the mission to create AI building blocks and horizontal solutions that empower Microsoft 365 AI scenarios to deliver better productivity and richer quality experiences to Microsoft 365 Customers. The team works on language representation and generation and knowledge mining projects and execute across the entire machine learning life-cycle, including data mining, Deep learned modeling, large-scale distributed training, improving training performance, run-time optimized inference etc. We leverage both in-house (e.g. Azure ML) and open source (e.g. PyTorch) software and a diverse set of hardware including CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs.
We are looking for a thought leader who can bring deep applied science experience and knowledge to help us in building the future of AI systems. As a Principal Applied Scientist in Substrate Intelligence you would work in an exciting and fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with teams across the company, including Microsoft Research (MSR). You will work as part of an organization that brings together talent in the areas of machine learning, natural language processing, deep learning, information retrieval, software engineering, and trustworthy computing. Applied Research experience in the following:
Master’s degree in computer science or closely related field, PhD preferred
10+ years of experience developing product level algorithms preferred, with a proven track record of successfully shipping applied research to production
Excellent problem solving and data analysis skills, with expertise in developing or applying predictive analytics, statistical modeling, data mining, machine and deep learning algorithms, especially at scale
